The long planned mixed use parking and retail project for downtown Longmont has taken a step closer to becoming a reality. The Longmont City Council recently informally voted in favor of the project on the 300 block of Kimbark Street.

The project, to consist of a parking garage, retail space, and residential condominium units has long been the recommendation of the Longmont Downtown Development Authority. They have spearheaded the project from its inception and have strongly backed the Kimbark Street location. They have several other agencies and groups that agree with the project and its planned location, including the Longmont Area Economic Council, the Longmont Association of Realtors, and the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce to name a few.
Funding for the project will be both public funds and private investors. The next step will be to gather specific proposals for a final draft on exactly how and what the structure will include. The Phelps Development Company which has been working for the city as a consultant on the project will present more recommendations in the next several weeks. The focus on our downtown and economic revitalization of this area will certainly benefit from the construction and success of this project.
Our question to you:
How do you feel about the parking and mixed use development?
